About Sweetheart Trees

The "Sweetheart Tree" is hand painted and personalized, with your sweetheart's name, on an antique slate roofing shingle that may have spent 100 years on an American roof. The slates that I use have been taken off old barns, sheds and houses that are being torn down. The slate itself was most likely mined from the Peach Bottom slate quarries near my home town of Whiteford, Maryland.

The ruggedness of the slate and the chips and holes do not detract, but enhance the uniqueness of the artwork.

The "Sweetheart Tree" makes a great gift for showers, weddings, anniversaries or just for yourself. It also makes a unique gift for
Valentine's Day, instead of the usual candy or flowers. The larger size, gives more room for families to use as a family tree with small hearts trailing down the trunk for children's or grandchildren's names.

This makes a wonderful gift for the hard to buy parents or grandparents. For Mother's Day or for single moms, "Mom's Sweethearts" or "Grandma's Sweethearts" can be painted in the large heart with the trailing smaller hearts of children's names.
