The slates that I use have been taken off old barns, sheds and houses that are being torn down.

The slate itself was most likely mined from the Peach Bottom slate quarries near my home town of Whiteford, Maryland.

 

The slates are then scrubbed....

 

They are then hand-painted with either Spring or Autumn colors; and  the names are  painted in the hearts!
